Open Rhinoplasty

Open Rhinoplasty is the technique used for incisions. This technique is used by the surgeon that is working on your Rhinoplasty. It is also up to the surgeon to decide if it is closed or open. During an open Rhinoplasty, a surgeon usually makes an incision in the columella. The incision would be between the nostrils, and additional incisions will follow it in the nose. Open Rhinoplasty is generally used for treating both cosmetics as well as the functional deficits of the nose. This technique is usually tough to master as it needs proper nasal anatomy knowledge. It is essential to outline the anatomical structures to plan the entire surgery before executing it on the patient. It is also very important for the surgeons to make strategies before the surgery to coordinate, hence providing more care for the patient.

Procedure:

  • Anesthesia- The patient is subject to medication for his comfort during the surgery. The medications generally include intravenous sedation or general anesthesia.

  • Incision- An incision is made across the columella.

  • Reshaping the nose structure- Generally, cartilages from the septum are used for reshaping the nose structure.

  • Correcting a deviated septum- In case it has deviated, it can be straightened to improve breathing.

  • Closing incisions- Once the nose is sculpted to the desired requirements, the incisions are then closed.

Benefits:

  • As far as accurate changes are considered, the main benefit of an open rhinoplasty is that this surgery has the accessibility of the nose below the skin surface. Hence allowing more precise changes to be made.

  • It provides an improved structural support. As the shape of the underlying cartilages can be changed, it can cause improved preservation along with structural support.

  • People are not prone to any long-term problems. One can continue their everyday life within one week without surgery.
