Fat grafting, also known as fat transfer or fat injection, is a surgical process by which fat is transferred from one area of the body to another. This process aims to improve or augment the area where the fat is injected. This technique involves extracting adipose fat by liposuction, processing the fat, and then reinjecting purified fat into the area needing improvement.
The following are three types of fat grafting:
1. Macro fat grafting
➤ This process is used for large volume fat transfers in the body, for example, in the breasts or buttocks. For example in Brazilian butt lift.
2. Micro fat grafting
➤ This process is used commonly for people who want more volume in their faces, used for under-eye correction, lip, chin, cheek augmentation, etc.
3. Nano fat grafting
➤ This method of fat grafting is used to improve skin texture and tone and used for smoothening crow's feet, fine lines, etc.
Procedure
➤ First, fat is extracted from the donor area using liposuction techniques.
➤ Then the extracted fat is decanted and centrifugation to separate debris, excess fluid, and dead cells.
➤ Finally, the fat is injected into tiny droplets in the recipient area.
Benefits
➤ This procedure also provides natural-looking results.
➤ The risk of allergic reactions is significantly less since the fat used is your own.
➤ Unwanted fat is removed from other parts of the body since fat is extracted from one part and injected into another.
➤ Scarring is significantly less in this process since liposuction techniques are used.
➤ Its results are also long-lasting.
➤ It provides easy and painless recovery just like any other liposuction.
