Earlobe surgery, also known as Lobuloplasty, is a surgical procedure used to repair a split or torn earlobe. The surgeon extends the split downwards to complete the ear. The split is then stitched with minimum sutures to make the ear whole again. The sutures are kept in place for a week for proper recovery, after which the doctor removes them.

Following are the two types of repairs done in an earlobe surgery:

  1. Incomplete cleft

This is usually bilateral and commonly found in older women who have worn heavy earrings for several years.

  2. Full cleft

These are usually unilateral, caused by direct local trauma like sudden forceful pulling of earrings

 Procedure

  ➤ First, the final scar on the earlobe is marked for illustration.

  ➤ Then the ear is cleaned, and local anaesthetics are used.

  ➤ Extra skin is removed from the inside edge of the scar.

  ➤ Then the earlobe skin from the front and back are approximated with fine sutures.
