Lipoma is a non-cancerous mass of fatty tissues under the skin. Lipoma is in the subcutaneous tissue-the innermost layer that contains fat cells, nerve endings, and hair follicles. It multiplies, doesn’t move under the skin and is usually painful. Lipoma doesn’t always need surgery because there are many modern medicines for this now.
Procedure
➤ Most lipomas are removed under local anesthesia
➤ Although laser surgeries are available, they are not used in these cases as they have not developed that much
➤ For dissolving the fat tissues, sometimes liposuction may be used
➤ The incision is usually closed with dissolvable stitches
Benefits
➤ As lipoma can spread, it can become fatal. Removing it may sometimes save your life
➤ A lipoma is non-cancerous, but other complications in the lump may lead to cancer in the surrounding areas. Removing it decreases the risk of cancer
➤ Removal of the lipoma does not induce a tumor of any kind
