Droopy Eyelids

Droopy eyelids are excess sagging of the upper eyelids. Under this, there are two types of conditions: Ptosis and dermatochalasis. Ptosis is the condition where the edge of the upper eyelid may be lower than it should be. Dermatochalasis is the condition there may be excess baggy skin in the upper eyelid. These may be present from birth, caused by accidents, eye cancer, or muscle weakness resulting from hyperopia or myopia (eye power).

People who have aged lose their skin elasticity to their body weight. As a result the upper and lower eyelids become baggy or droopy. So, the front vision gets blocked as a result of accumulation of the skin and fat under the skin on the eyelids. This can be a problematic issue and needs surgical attention.

Procedure:

  • This surgery is performed under local anaesthesia.

  • The surgeon marks and borders the area of surgery.

  • Then a cut is made on the upper eyelid first.

  • The excessive skin and tissues are removed with scalpel.

  • For excessive fat, cannula liposuction may be performed or may be removed with scalpel.

  • Then the wound is dressed and the lower eyelid is operated in the same procedure.

Benefits:

  • This procedure reduces muscle weakness to a great extent.

  • It improves visual experience of the patients.

  • This surgery provides better eye examinations for future problems.

  • It reduces stress on the retina and leads to visual aiding.

  • It leads to decreased fluctuations in bi-focal power patients.
